Hey, It’s Me! and also the Fam!

Hey I’m Rachael!

This is my story:  I played soccer when I was a kid; it was my whole entire life.  I played every day, I played competitively across the country and I thought it was my life because I was really good.  I then went to college to play soccer.  Hey, this is cool…so much soccer.  At that point, I figured it was time to decide what I was going to do with my life and I chose my other love, art.  I took oodles and oodles of art classes, printmaking, painting, figure drawing (funny story here about drawing nudes I’ll have to tell you sometime), sculpture, art history.  I collected art classes on my transcript like people collect shells.  It was absurd, I needed a swift kick in the pants around sophomore year.  In my junior year, I chose Art Education and Art History as my double majors.  I know what you are thinking, because my parents said the same thing:  finally, a degree that was employable.  I also met my husband that year and he’s very focused.  His proximity probably helped me get my life together :)

I am super creative, artistic and understand different forms of art.  I can come up with ideas for just about any theme and make it really fun for kids; however, I graduated and I couldn’t find an art education job anywhere.  I worked as a substitute teacher, working predominately with students with disabilities, and went back to school to become an Intervention Specialist because guess what, working with students with disabilities is the most creative way to teach out there.  You have to be innovative, think outside the box, and be solution-focused for their different needs.  Did you think we would start at soccer and end here?  I didn’t!  This has been my field for the last 15ish years.

Now I have my own kids and try to come up with cool new places to visit, activities to help them learn (but it has to be fun), recipes to eat, and other random endeavors.  This blog is our documentation of our creative exploits plus some of my interests mixed in as well.  It’s Ray of May…a kid and mom lifestyle blog that is not your average mom blog.  Enjoy Friends!
